Overview
The Quantum ActiveScale X200 is a next-generation object storage appliance built for large-scale unstructured data environments where massive capacity, high object count, and high throughput matter. It converges server and storage infrastructure into a high-density, rack-friendly architecture to support demanding workloads such as media archives, research data lakes, large-scale analytics, cloud storage replacement and hybrid-cloud object platforms. The X200 delivers significantly more capacity per rack, accelerated performance, and higher object scalability compared to its predecessor platforms. It is designed to scale non-disruptively from terabytes into petabytes and beyond, supporting multiple geo-dispersed sites and object counts in the tens to hundreds of billions.

Features
- Scale-out architecture: Allows seamless expansion of both capacity and performance by adding nodes or expansion enclosures without complex re-balancing or downtime.
- High object count support: Engineered to handle billions of objects at large scale—making it ideal for archives, content libraries, sensor/IoT data, multi-site distribution, and hybrid cloud workflows.
- Converged server/storage design: The X200 hardware combines compute modules and storage modules into a unified chassis, simplifying deployment and serviceability.
- High-capacity configuration: The platform supports large numbers of drives per enclosure, enabling substantial raw capacity per rack and reducing footprint, power, and cooling costs.
- Enterprise data protection and durability: Includes strong erasure coding, dynamic data placement, geo-spread support (multi-site), object versioning, immutability and consistency for long-term data retention and compliance.
- Flexible front-end and back-end connectivity: Designed for modern data centre networking (such as 10/25 GbE and SAS/JBOD connectivity) for high throughput and efficient data layer expansion.
- Private/hybrid cloud readiness: Compatible with S3-compatible object access, supports active and cold storage classes, enabling organisations to build that data lake or cloud-storage alternative within their data centre.

Specifications
System & Architecture
- Product family: ActiveScale X200 object storage system.
- Base hardware: 4U90 twin-server chassis (each server supports compute and storage modules).
- Drive capacity: Support for large number of HDDs (for example up to 90 drive slots per 4U90 server module) and optional JBOD expansion modules for high capacity expansion.
- Connectivity (example): Internal cluster fabric requires 10/25 GbE links for internal and public traffic; front-end public traffic recommendation is 10/25 GbE ports per node.
 Capacity & Scalability
- Minimum active storage per X200 base configuration (from data sheet): approx. 1,080 TB raw active storage in its HDD-based configuration.
- Object count scale: For X200 configuration, object count support in base configurations is up to approx. 5 billion objects (or more) and unlimited at scale.
 Rack & Site Requirements
- Rack installation: The X200 requires 19” racks meeting EIA 310 standard, with minimum recommended rack depth ~1200 mm (47.2”) to accommodate chassis and cabling.
- Example weight/size: A base rack configuration with 9 4U90 twin server chassis and other components may weigh over 1400 kg.
 Operating Environment
- Recommended operating temperature: 10 °C to 35 °C (50 °F to 95 °F).
- Humidity: ~8 % to 90 % non-condensing in operating state.
 Data & Access Protocols
- Protocol support: Object access via S3-compatible RESTful API; legacy NAS protocols may be supported via gateway or integration.
- Data protection & durability: Dynamic data placement, advanced erasure coding, geo-spread replication (3-site geo-redundancy), strong consistency for object operations.
 Management & Services
- Non-disruptive expansion: Node addition and JBOD expansion possible without disruption or re-balancing of existing data.
